Louis Dykes It is with greatest regret that we have to announce the death, after a severe operation, of Mr. Louis Dykes of Bolton Woods, Bradford, which occurred on friday January 6th 1939. He was fifty eight years of age. Mr Dykes, one of the most successful breeders and exhibitors of Yorkshire canaries the fancy has ever known, had a great love for the hobby, which in no way lessened after some forty years of continuous exhibiting and right up to the end, his wondrous teams of birds were to be seen at shows throughout the country. His yearly average of first prizes won during the past ten years was two hundred, whilst the cups and trophies he secured are too numerous to mention. This great fancier won practically everything it was possible to win with yorkshire canaries including the Grand National Challenge Trophy at the Crystal Palace show. As most fanciers know, Mr Dykes devoted his whole life and energies to his remarkable stud of birds, and it will be long ere such another breeder and exhibitor of his calibre appears.
