Billy Hunter was another of the Yorkie 'greats', and a lifelong devotee to the Yorkshire canary.

An extremely successful Champion exhibitor, he showed for many years in partnership with Tom Hosier.

For several years during the 1970's, Billy exhibited two cinnamon marked hens, one yellow and one buff, both of which were almost unbeatable on the showbench.

He is pictured, aged 70, with both birds in his birdroom.

One of his proudest possessions was a medallion won by his father, Mr G Hunter at the Yorkshire Union of Cage Birds show in 1913.

Can anyone trace their birdkeeping roots further back than that date?
